ISLAMABAD: The federal government has issued an official notification announcing the annual schedule of public and optional holidays for the year, covering national, religious and cultural occasions across the country.
According to the notification, a total of 11 public holidays and 23 optional holidays will be observed by federal government offices nationwide. Provincial governments may issue separate notifications for holidays applicable within their respective jurisdictions. The schedule aims to help government institutions, businesses and the general public plan activities in advance.
The government also confirmed bank holidays, stating that banks will remain closed on February 18 and July 1, in addition to the previously observed holiday on January 1, as part of the official banking holiday calendar.
Key national holidays include Kashmir Day on February 5, Pakistan Day on March 23, Labour Day on May 1, Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28, Independence Day on August 14, and Allama Iqbal Day on November 9.
Eidul Fitr holidays are expected from March 21 to 23, while Eidul Adha is likely to be observed from May 27 to 29, subject to moon sighting.
Muharram 9 and 10 will fall on June 24 and 25, while Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is expected on August 25. December 25 will be observed as Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas, with an additional holiday on December 26 for the Christian community.
