Through active and balanced diplomacy, Pakistan has elevated its relationship with the United States to a new level, according to international journal The Diplomat. The report praised Islamabad’s ability to manage regional tensions and global political shifts effectively, turning them into opportunities for national benefit.
During heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, India’s rejection of U.S. mediation led to stagnating ties with Washington. Pakistan, however, positioned itself as a responsible and reliable partner, increasing its diplomatic weight in the U.S.
The report highlighted key milestones, including invitations for Pakistan’s military and political leadership to the White House, discussions covering trade, investment, and security, and the July 2025 trade agreement reducing tariffs. Additionally, joint oil exploration projects and approval of F-16 upgrades reinforced economic and defense cooperation.
Pakistan also strengthened ties with China while maintaining positive engagement with the U.S., which supported Islamabad’s stance by designating certain terrorist groups in Balochistan. Meanwhile, India faced diplomatic and economic setbacks as a planned trade agreement with the U.S. failed, leading to 50% tariffs and regional isolation.
The Diplomat concludes that Pakistan’s strategic decisions, balanced foreign policy, and active diplomacy have re-established it as an influential player on the global stage, with potential long-term effects on regional stability and the economy.
