Sri Lanka Captain Dasun Shanaka steps back due to personal reasons as Lahore Qalandars reshuffle squad ahead of tournament.
LAHORE: Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has withdrawn from the upcoming Pakistan Super League 11, dealing a setback to defending champions Lahore Qalandars just days before the tournament begins.
The franchise confirmed that Shanaka, who also captains the Sri Lankan national team, opted out of the competition due to personal reasons. His absence comes as a significant blow to Lahore’s squad balance ahead of the high-profile T20 league.
To fill the gap, Lahore Qalandars have signed Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams as a replacement. In a statement shared on social media, the franchise expressed confidence in Sams’ abilities, highlighting his all-round skills with both bat and ball.
Sams is no stranger to the PSL, having previously represented multiple franchises, including stints with Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. His experience across global T20 leagues is expected to strengthen Lahore’s campaign as they aim to defend their title.
The tournament is set to commence on March 26, with eight teams competing. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, matches will be held in Karachi and Lahore. Due to prevailing conditions, spectators will not be allowed inside stadiums.
Lahore Qalandars, led by star players including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf, remain determined to mount a strong title defense despite the late squad change.
