Imad Siddiqui, nephew of jailed Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, fatally shot in Houston amid carjacking incident
Houston, Texas, was rocked by tragedy as 18-year-old Imad Siddiqui, the nephew of jailed Pakistani scientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, was fatally shot during a carjacking incident.
According to police, the shooting occurred near a gas station in Alton late Thursday night, where unknown assailants in a Chrysler vehicle fired at Imad Siddiqui and fled the scene. Authorities recovered a second vehicle, a Honda, linked to the crime near the site.
Imad, a university student who recently enrolled, was engaged in online car sales and had gone to meet two friends to finalize a vehicle deal when the attack happened. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The local Pakistani-American community has expressed deep shock and grief over the incident. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to identify and apprehend the suspects. Family sources have reportedly identified one suspect by the name Oliver.
Imad Siddiqui’s funeral prayers will be held at Masjid Sabreen on Sunday after Zuhr prayers, and he will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Alameda Geneva Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and extended family, many of whom are prominent figures in medicine and academia.
Authorities have urged the public to provide any information that may lead to the capture of the assailants, while the community mourns the loss of a young life with a promising future.
