Security forces foil two infiltration attempts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, eliminating militants in coordinated operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A sharp escalation in cross-border tensions was reported after Pakistan’s security forces successfully foiled two separate infiltration attempts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, eliminating a total of 13 militants in targeted operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the operations took place on April 28 and 29 in Mohmand District and North Waziristan District, where movement of armed groups attempting to enter Pakistani territory was detected and immediately engaged by security personnel.
In Mohmand District, eight militants were killed after troops intercepted a group attempting to cross the border. The ISPR said the engagement was swift and precise, preventing what it described as a serious infiltration effort.
In a separate but similarly intense encounter in North Waziristan District, five additional militants were neutralized after a heavy exchange of fire when another group attempted to breach border security positions.
The military’s media wing reiterated its longstanding position regarding cross-border militancy, pointing to concerns over ineffective border control on the Afghan side. It emphasized that such incidents highlight ongoing security challenges along the frontier.
Officials also stressed that Afghan authorities must ensure their territory is not used for launching attacks against Pakistan, adding that militant networks continue to exploit difficult terrain and porous stretches of the border.
Following the operations, security forces launched sanitization efforts in both areas to clear any remaining threats and prevent regrouping of hostile elements.
The ISPR further confirmed that counter-terrorism operations under the national strategy “Azm-e-Istehkam” will continue with full force. The campaign aims to eliminate foreign-backed militant activity and strengthen long-term border security across vulnerable regions.
The latest developments underline the persistent volatility along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where security forces remain engaged in frequent operations to counter infiltration attempts and maintain territorial integrity.
