A major security operation unfolded in Bannu after armed militants allegedly attacked the Fateh Khel police post using a vehicle packed with explosives, triggering a massive blast that was reportedly heard across distant areas.
According to initial reports, the explosives-laden vehicle rammed directly into the police checkpoint, causing panic and chaos in the surrounding region. The intensity of the explosion sent shockwaves through nearby localities, while heavy smoke was seen rising from the area shortly after the attack.
Security officials said an intense exchange of fire erupted immediately after the blast, with police personnel responding to the assault as militants attempted to tighten their grip around the checkpoint. Sources claimed that more than 120 armed attackers had surrounded the Fateh Khel police post during the operation.
The gun battle between police forces and militants was still ongoing at the time of reporting, with intermittent heavy firing continuing in and around the checkpoint. Authorities have yet to release official details regarding casualties or the extent of damage caused by the explosion.
The latest attack has once again highlighted the deteriorating security situation in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces have faced repeated militant assaults in recent months. Additional law enforcement and security personnel were reportedly dispatched to the area to reinforce the police unit under attack.
Residents in nearby areas remained terrified as the sounds of gunfire and explosions echoed for hours, while authorities urged citizens to avoid approaching the conflict zone until the situation is brought under control.
