With voting day just hours away, tension and anticipation are rising in Shigar as final preparations for the Shigar segment of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections 2026 reach completion under tight security and full administrative readiness.
Election authorities confirmed that all arrangements for 71 polling stations have been finalized, with ballot materials delivered across the district and polling staff deployed to their assigned locations. In several areas, early voting procedures have already begun as officials push to ensure a smooth and timely start on election day.
Security has been significantly reinforced across the district. Out of 71 polling stations, 17 have been declared highly sensitive and 26 sensitive, prompting enhanced deployment plans. Around 350 Punjab Police personnel have joined local forces, alongside Pakistan Army units and other law enforcement agencies, all placed on high alert to maintain order and prevent any disruption.
Officials said surveillance systems, patrol units, and static checkpoints have been activated to safeguard voters and polling staff, particularly in high-risk zones.
