The senator alleges official interference in a criminal investigation involving a relative of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, while no evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate the claims and the accused has not publicly responded.
Senator Faisal Vawda has demanded the immediate resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, alleging that the federal government is attempting to suppress a criminal case involving a close relative of the senior minister.
Speaking on Friday, Vawda claimed that the individual, whom he identified as Dar’s alleged grandson, faces allegations including trafficking foreign women into Pakistan, rape, physical assault, and extortion. He further alleged that the suspect was arrested only after the intervention of a foreign embassy and accused the government of using state institutions to protect an influential family member.
Vawda alleged that authorities are attempting to narrow the investigation by focusing only on extortion allegations while excluding more serious accusations of sexual assault. He also claimed that officials are trying to deport the foreign complainants before they can provide further testimony and that a statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has not been made public.
The senator further alleged that medical evidence could be manipulated to weaken the case and criticized the silence of political parties across the government and opposition, as well as civil society groups that advocate for women’s rights.
Vawda argued that such alleged interference reflects broader issues of elite influence and accountability in Pakistan. He urged transparent legal proceedings and called for Ishaq Dar to step down pending the outcome of the matter.
