Actor and designer Yousuf Bashir Qureshi says ego and the unwillingness to compromise are key reasons why even decades-long marriages can end in divorce, amid growing public discussion over high-profile separations in Pakistan.
Yousuf Bashir Qureshi has shared his thoughts on why many long-term marriages eventually end in divorce, pointing to ego and a lack of compromise as the biggest reasons behind relationship breakdowns.
Speaking during an interview with Fuchsia Magazine, the actor, designer and cultural figure said marriages survive only as long as both partners remain committed to making them work. According to Qureshi, once either spouse refuses to adjust or compromise, the relationship gradually begins to fall apart.
His remarks come as several high-profile separations in Pakistan’s entertainment industry continue to attract public attention. Veteran actor Waseem Abbas recently confirmed that he and actress Saba Hameed had ended their 29-year marriage, revealing they had lived separately for the past 14 years. Actress Sana Fakhar has also announced the end of her long-term marriage, adding to the ongoing conversation about late-life divorces.
Qureshi suggested that unresolved pride and differences can quietly build over the years until they become impossible to overcome. His comments echo the views of many relationship experts, who often identify ego, poor communication and an unwillingness to compromise as major challenges to lasting marriages.
