Government officials reaffirm that Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s general elections will be held on July 27 as planned, while pledging transparent polling and condemning attempts to disrupt peace in the region.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has confirmed that the general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will be held on July 27 as scheduled, with authorities pledging to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process despite ongoing security concerns.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Chairman Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhary dismissed speculation about any postponement of the polls. He said political campaigning is progressing across the region and that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will begin its public rallies from Sunday.
Chaudhary stated that normal life continues without restrictions in nine of AJK’s ten districts. He alleged that the banned Awami Action Committee has attempted to undermine public order, challenge the state’s authority, and disrupt daily life, but stressed that such efforts would not derail the democratic process.
Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding political, historical, geographical, and religious ties with Kashmir. He urged Kashmiris to remain united and avoid being influenced by external provocations, saying Pakistan remains committed to supporting their welfare.
