A woman lost her life and two men sustained serious injuries after a mortar shell landed in a mountainous area of Lower South Waziristan, prompting renewed concern over civilian safety.
South Waziristan: A tragic incident occurred in the mountainous Zamchan area of Lower South Waziristan on Saturday when a mortar shell landed near civilians collecting firewood, leaving one woman dead and two others seriously injured.
According to local sources, women and children from the area were gathering firewood for household use when the shell struck unexpectedly. Hazira Bibi, wife of Muhammad Wali and a resident of the Gangi Khel tribe’s Khojmat Khel branch, died at the scene.
The injured were identified as Muhammad Wali, son of Rehman Gul, and Fazal Rehman, son of Rehman Gul. Local residents rushed both victims to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for emergency treatment.
Hospital officials later referred the injured to Dera Ismail Khan due to the severity of their condition.
The incident has sparked grief and anger among local residents, who expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
