Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to media development, journalist welfare, and digital transformation during the inauguration of the National Press Club’s official website in Islamabad.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Sunday inaugurated the official website of the National Press Club, describing the launch as an important milestone in the club’s digital transformation and Pakistan’s evolving media landscape.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Tarar said it was an honor to participate in the event and praised the National Press Club for conducting its elections in a peaceful, transparent, and professional manner. He noted that the smooth transition of the newly elected governing body reflected the club’s democratic traditions.
The information minister emphasized that the National Press Club remains an integral institution within Islamabad’s journalistic community and continues to play a vital role in strengthening press freedom and professional engagement.
Highlighting the importance of modernization, Tarar welcomed the launch of the club’s website and said embracing digital technology would enhance communication, accessibility, and institutional efficiency. He also directed officials to take immediate steps for establishing a digital laboratory at the National Press Club to support journalists with modern technological resources.
Referring to previous interactions with media professionals during the Islamabad Talks initiative, Tarar said the government values constructive engagement with journalists and remains committed to addressing their concerns.
The minister stated that the government is ensuring the timely payment of outstanding dues to television channels. He stressed that media organizations also have a responsibility to pay journalists’ salaries on time, emphasizing that the welfare of media workers should remain a top priority.
Tarar further said the importance of television channels and newspapers cannot be diminished despite the rapid growth of digital media. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the journalism profession and announced that immediate steps would be taken to introduce a Health Card facility for journalists.
The announcements reflect the government’s broader efforts to promote media digitization while strengthening welfare measures for Pakistan’s journalism community.
