Election authorities say the officials abandoned their assigned polling stations and were found at a private residence, prompting immediate legal and disciplinary action.
MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission has ordered strict action against two presiding officers in Kotli after receiving reports on social media alleging that they failed to report to their assigned polling stations and instead went to a private residence.
According to an Election Commission spokesperson, the commission immediately took notice of the reports and directed authorities to register First Information Reports (FIRs) against both officials. They were subsequently arrested and placed in police custody as legal proceedings began under the applicable election laws.
The spokesperson said both presiding officers have also been suspended from government service pending further proceedings. The Election Commission emphasized that election officials are expected to perform their duties with complete impartiality and responsibility to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
The commission warned that anyone found violating the election code of conduct or neglecting official responsibilities would face strict disciplinary and legal action. It reiterated that negligence, misconduct, or any irregularity during the electoral process would not be tolerated.
The action comes as election authorities continue to monitor polling activities closely, underscoring their commitment to maintaining transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the electoral process.
