Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening disaster awareness and emergency communication while urging citizens, media, and institutions to work together against growing monsoon-related risks.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has called on citizens and communities across Pakistan to actively participate in relief and preparedness efforts as the country continues to face intense monsoon rains and the threat of floods.
Speaking during a visit to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Tarar said disaster response is not solely the responsibility of government institutions but requires the support of every citizen and community. He urged people to assist in relief operations wherever damage has occurred and remain vigilant in areas vulnerable to cloudbursts, flash floods, and overflowing rivers and streams.
The minister noted that several cities have received an extraordinary amount of rainfall within just a few days—levels that would normally be expected over several months. Despite these challenging conditions, he said the government’s emergency response has remained effective.
Tarar pledged that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting would continue working closely with the NDMA and other relevant ministries to ensure timely public warnings and greater awareness, in line with the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He emphasized that providing accurate and prompt information is essential to minimizing the impact of natural disasters.
The minister also acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s media, thanking television channels, news organizations, and digital platforms for giving significant coverage to climate-related issues, early warning systems, and public safety awareness. He said media outlets have consistently dedicated airtime and special programming to educate the public about environmental challenges and emergency preparedness.
Tarar expressed confidence that coordinated efforts among government institutions, the media, and the public would further strengthen Pakistan’s disaster response capabilities in the coming days. He reiterated the government’s commitment to keeping citizens informed and extending every possible assistance to those affected by severe weather conditions.
