ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has appointed Major General (Retired) Rajeh Al-Buqami as its new ambassador to Pakistan, marking a fresh chapter in the Kingdom’s longstanding diplomatic relationship with Islamabad. He succeeds Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki, who served as Saudi ambassador during a period of close bilateral engagement.
Al-Buqami officially took the oath of office alongside several newly appointed Saudi ambassadors designated to represent the Kingdom in friendly and partner countries. The appointments are part of Saudi Arabia’s broader diplomatic strategy to strengthen international partnerships and enhance cooperation across key regions.
As the Kingdom’s new envoy to Islamabad, Al-Buqami is expected to focus on expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, investment, regional security, and people-to-people ties. His appointment comes as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan continue to maintain close political, strategic, and economic relations.
Saudi Arabia remains one of Pakistan’s most important allies, with cooperation spanning trade, energy, defense, labor, and development initiatives. The two countries also coordinate closely on regional and international issues through regular high-level exchanges.
