Pakistan has welcomed progress under the Gaza Peace Plan, praising international mediators while reaffirming support for a sovereign Palestinian state through a UN-backed political process.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed recent progress under the Board of Peace toward implementing the disarmament process outlined in the Gaza Peace Plan, describing it as a positive step toward lasting peace in the region.
In a statement shared on X, the prime minister commended the mediation efforts of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye, saying their diplomatic engagement had helped achieve meaningful progress in advancing the peace initiative.
Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the leadership of US President Donald Trump, describing the latest development as a significant achievement for the Board of Peace and expressing hope that momentum would continue toward the full implementation of the commitments contained in the Gaza Peace Plan.
The prime minister said Pakistan expects the latest developments to pave the way for practical measures that will advance the peace process and help stabilize the region after months of conflict.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding position on the Palestinian issue, Shehbaz Sharif said Islamabad supports the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination through a credible and time-bound political process in line with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations resolutions.
He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
