Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for Nepal after a deadly avalanche struck an international mountaineering expedition on Broad Peak, with rescue teams continuing search operations in one of the world’s most challenging mountain environments.
Pakistan has expressed solidarity with Nepal following the deadly avalanche on Broad Peak in the Karakoram range that struck an international mountaineering expedition, leaving several climbers dead and others still missing.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination, Senator Rana Sanaullah, said Pakistan shares the grief of the Nepalese people and remains fully committed to supporting the ongoing rescue mission. He emphasized that authorities launched search and rescue operations immediately after the avalanche.
According to Rana Sanaullah, the expedition consisted of 10 international climbers, including six from Nepal and others from Pakistan, the United States, China, and Oman. Rescue officials have so far recovered the bodies of four climbers, including renowned Nepalese mountaineer Pur Bahadur Gurung, while efforts continue to locate those still missing.
He said the Pakistan Army, supported by relevant government agencies, is conducting an extensive rescue operation using helicopters, drones, GPS tracking, aerial surveillance, and ground search teams. Severe weather, high altitude, and difficult terrain have complicated the operation, but authorities remain determined to continue the mission.
Rana Sanaullah extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, describing Nepalese climbers as highly respected members of the global mountaineering community. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding friendship with Nepal and pledged that every available resource would remain dedicated to the search until all possible efforts have been exhausted.
