Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has accused Al Jazeera of presenting a misleading portrayal of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections through what it described as selective reporting from polling stations in Muzaffarabad.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has criticized Al Jazeera’s coverage of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, alleging that the international broadcaster presented a distorted picture of the electoral process through selective reporting from polling stations in Muzaffarabad.
In a statement on X, the ministry said it had taken note of what it described as Al Jazeera’s “selective reporting” from carefully chosen polling stations. According to the ministry, the broadcaster relied on specific timings and statements from selected individuals to create what it called a misleading narrative about the elections and the voting process.
The ministry further alleged that such reporting amounted to “yellow journalism” and claimed it reflected the agenda of external actors seeking to delegitimize the electoral process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials maintained that the people of Muzaffarabad and AJK had demonstrated their democratic will through the election, rejecting what the ministry described as “anarchy and coercion.”
