Finance Ministry confirms existing ad hoc relief allowances will remain unchanged for federal employees while defining the applicable rates for newly appointed staff.
The federal government has decided to freeze the Ad Hoc Relief Allowance-2023 and Ad Hoc Relief Allowance-2024 for its employees, ensuring that the existing allowance rates remain unchanged until further notice.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the Ad Hoc Relief Allowance-2023 will continue at the rates applicable on June 30, 2023. Employees in Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 1 to 16 will keep receiving an allowance equal to 35% of their basic pay, while officers in BPS 17 to 22 will continue to receive 30% of their basic pay.
The ministry also announced that the Ad Hoc Relief Allowance-2024 will remain frozen at the rates applicable on June 30, 2026. Under the current structure, employees in BPS 1 to 16 will receive 25% of their basic pay, whereas officers in BPS 17 to 22 will continue to receive 20% of their basic pay.
The latest decision means there will be no increase in either allowance until the government issues a fresh notification. However, eligible federal employees will continue receiving both allowances at their current rates as part of their monthly salaries.
The Finance Ministry also issued guidelines for newly recruited federal government employees, specifying the applicable ad hoc relief allowance rates to ensure uniform implementation across all federal departments and ministries.
