WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has rejected reports suggesting the United States is facing shortages of weapons and ammunition, insisting that the country maintains substantial military stockpiles and continues to expand its defense production capacity.

Speaking publicly, Trump said the United States possesses extensive reserves of weapons and ammunition while manufacturing military equipment on a large scale. He added that additional supplies are being procured when necessary and that defense contractors are building a record number of new plants and factories to strengthen the nation’s defense industrial base.

Trump also issued a warning over what he described as the leaking of “treasonous statements,” saying those responsible would be identified and could face lengthy prison sentences.

His remarks followed US media reports claiming that he questioned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth about alleged declines in American weapons stockpiles during the recent conflict involving Iran. According to those reports, concerns over ammunition reserves may have limited Washington’s available military options against Tehran.

The reports said Trump raised the issue during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David in Maryland last week, where he reportedly sought clarification from Hegseth regarding the country’s ammunition inventory.

However, US officials have strongly denied those claims, maintaining that the United States has not experienced a critical shortage of weapons or ammunition. Officials also rejected assertions that depleted stockpiles restricted military planning or operational choices related to Iran.
