WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran could be nearing an end, raising hopes that diplomatic efforts may also lead to the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said the United States, Iran and Oman were close to reaching a temporary understanding focused on restoring access through the key maritime route. His comments came as diplomatic efforts continued amid persistent uncertainty over the future of the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz has become a central issue because of its importance to global energy supplies and international shipping. Any agreement allowing commercial traffic to resume normally could ease pressure on energy markets and reduce concerns over further disruption to international trade.
