Sourav Ganguly, Wife Dona Receive Death Threats as Police Launch Probe

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Fresh threatening letters reportedly sent to the former India captain’s family have prompted a police investigation and a request for increased security.

KOLKATA: Former India captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Dona Ganguly, have reportedly received death threats, prompting police to investigate a series of threatening letters allegedly sent to the family over several months.

According to Indian media reports, a fresh letter was opened Monday at the office of the president of the Bengal Cricket Association. The letter, reportedly written in English, allegedly contained threats directed at Ganguly and his family.

The latest development has raised concern because similar letters have reportedly been received for about six months. The messages were initially believed to be the work of disgruntled or overenthusiastic fans, but the repeated and increasingly aggressive nature of the threats eventually led the family to contact police.

A formal complaint has reportedly been filed at the local police station. The state government’s security department has also been informed, with the family seeking appropriate protection.

Police sources said their preliminary inquiry indicated that the threatening letters had been delivered by courier to Ganguly’s residence. Two recent letters reportedly contained threatening language targeting Ganguly, his wife and people working with them.

Authorities have assured Ganguly’s personal assistant that the matter is being investigated and that necessary measures are being considered to protect the family.
