Allama Iqbal Park hosts Independence Day flag hoisting and mega tree plantation drive as Rawalpindi renews its commitment to a greener and cleaner Pakistan.
Rawalpindi celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with a strong message of environmental responsibility as a flag-hoisting ceremony and mega tree plantation campaign were held at Allama Iqbal Park on Friday.
The event was organized jointly by the Horticulture Agency Rawalpindi and Alkhidmat Foundation. Additional Managing Director Horticulture Agency Rawalpindi Ehsan Ullah, Director Horticulture Sheikh Tariq, officials, employees, young volunteers, students and representatives of civil society participated in the ceremony.
The program began with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the national anthem. Ehsan Ullah and Sheikh Tariq then planted saplings to formally launch the mega plantation campaign.
Young volunteers from Alkhidmat Foundation actively participated in the plantation drive, reinforcing the message that Independence Day celebrations can also be linked with practical efforts to protect the environment.
Speakers said love for Pakistan can be expressed not only through celebrations but also by working to make the country greener, cleaner and more beautiful. They described tree plantation as an investment in Pakistan’s brighter and safer future.
Participants were urged to go beyond planting trees and take responsibility for their long-term protection and care. Speakers also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Horticulture Agency Rawalpindi to improve public parks, restore green belts and promote plantation across the city.
The agency also distributed free saplings among citizens on Murree Road, encouraging residents to contribute to the city’s environmental improvement.
Participants offered special prayers for Pakistan’s development, prosperity and security and pledged to promote plantation under the spirit of “One Plant for Pakistan.”
