President Asif Ali Zardari urges nationwide participation in the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2026, targeting 20 million saplings to strengthen Pakistan’s forests and climate resilience.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for stronger efforts to protect Pakistan’s forests and expand tree cover, saying plantation is not merely an environmental priority but a national responsibility.
In a message issued at the launch of the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2026, Zardari said the campaign aims to plant 20 million saplings across Pakistan. He urged citizens, communities and government institutions to actively participate in the drive.
The president said forests are vital for preserving biodiversity, protecting water resources and maintaining the natural environment. He added that stronger forest cover can also help reduce the harmful impacts of climate change.
Zardari stressed that protecting existing forests must go hand in hand with increasing plantation across the country. He said Pakistan needs sustained efforts to address growing environmental challenges, including changing weather patterns and pressure on natural resources.
The president called for collective action to build a greener, cleaner and more climate-resilient Pakistan. He emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility requiring meaningful participation from both institutions and the public.
He also highlighted the importance of ensuring the survival of newly planted saplings, saying tree plantation should not remain limited to seasonal campaigns.
Zardari said trees planted today would help provide a healthier environment for future generations and contribute to a more sustainable Pakistan.
