Shaza Fatima says Google’s presence will deepen technology cooperation and create new opportunities in AI, education, digital skills and exports.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has welcomed the opening of Google’s local office in Pakistan, describing the development as an important milestone for the country’s digital transformation and technology sector.
Fatima said Google’s presence reflects growing international confidence in Pakistan’s digital economy and could strengthen collaboration between the government and the global technology industry. She linked the development to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of a “Digital Nation Pakistan.”
The minister said the government is focused on connecting Pakistani talent with international opportunities while building a stronger and more inclusive digital ecosystem. She highlighted the potential of technology to create new opportunities for young people and women and help Pakistani startups expand into international markets.
According to Fatima, cooperation with Google will also focus on digital skills, artificial intelligence, cloud technology and education. Greater access to modern digital tools, she said, could help students and professionals acquire skills increasingly demanded in the global economy.
The minister also emphasized the role of technology-based education and workforce development in supporting Pakistan’s long-term digital ambitions. She said stronger partnerships with international technology companies could help accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies across different sectors.
Fatima further highlighted opportunities for Pakistan’s technology industry to contribute to regional trade. She said the government would encourage exports of locally manufactured Chromebooks to other countries in the region, potentially creating new avenues for technology-related exports.
The opening of Google’s Pakistan office comes as the country seeks to expand its digital economy, develop technology talent and increase participation in global technology markets. Government-industry cooperation will be key to turning these ambitions into sustainable economic opportunities.
