WhatsApp is testing dedicated admin profiles for channels, allowing admins to use separate names and photos while keeping their personal account details private.
WhatsApp is rolling out a new admin profile feature for channels that allows administrators to create a separate identity for publishing updates without exposing their personal account details.
The feature is currently being tested with selected Android beta users through WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.33.7, according to WABetaInfo. The rollout is gradual, so not every beta tester using the supported version will have access yet.
With admin profiles, channel administrators can choose a custom name and profile photo that appear alongside the updates they publish. The dedicated profile remains separate from the administrator’s personal WhatsApp account.
The feature could be particularly useful for people who manage multiple channels. Administrators can create different identities for individual channels, using separate names and profile photos depending on the channel they manage.
How to Enable WhatsApp Admin Profiles
Eligible administrators can access the feature through their channel settings, where a new “Show admin profile on updates” option appears.
The setting is disabled by default. Admins must enable it manually if they want their dedicated profile to appear with their channel updates. The setting can also be disabled later through the channel information screen.
Once activated, WhatsApp allows the administrator to create a dedicated profile. The profile name can contain up to 25 characters, and a profile photo can also be added.
WhatsApp provides a preview before the profile is saved, allowing administrators to see how their chosen name and photo will appear with their channel updates.
Admin Identity Appears on Updates
After the feature is enabled, followers will see the administrator’s selected name and profile photo alongside updates published through the channel.
This could make channels easier to manage when multiple administrators are involved, as followers can distinguish which admin published a particular update.
Administrators can also change their dedicated profile name or photo later.
Personal WhatsApp Details Stay Hidden
The new feature separates the channel identity from the administrator’s personal WhatsApp account. Admins can choose a different name and photo for their channel profile, while their personal account information remains separate.
Their phone number is also not displayed to channel followers, helping administrators maintain greater privacy while managing public-facing channels.
