ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has suspended Health Secretary Aslam Ghori and removed him from the post, according to a notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.
The development comes as the federal government moves to make an immediate administrative change at the Ministry of National Health Services.
According to the notification, Capt. (Retd.) Muhammad Mahmood, who is serving as secretary of housing, has been assigned the additional charge of secretary health.
The decision means Mahmood will take on the responsibilities of the health secretary in addition to his existing duties as secretary housing.
The Prime Minister’s Office, through its Media Wing, issued the notification on Aug. 26, 2026, confirming both the suspension and removal of Aslam Ghori and the assignment of the additional charge to Muhammad Mahmood.
No further details regarding the reasons for Ghori’s suspension were provided in the information released by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The administrative changes take immediate significance for the federal health ministry, with Mahmood now tasked with overseeing its affairs alongside his existing responsibilities.
