Punjab and Huawei are exploring a province-wide AI ecosystem spanning infrastructure, cloud computing, smart governance, talent development and digital services.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif held high-level discussions with senior Huawei executives during her visit to China on a proposed roadmap to expand artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital infrastructure and smart public services across the province.
The discussions focused on a shared vision of making Punjab “the most AI-enabled province in South Asia” by moving beyond individual technology projects toward a province-wide digital and AI ecosystem.
Maryam Nawaz was accompanied by Ali Dar, adviser to the chief minister on artificial intelligence, along with provincial ministers and senior government officials.
The proposed cooperation includes developing secure and sovereign AI infrastructure in Pakistan, strengthening computing and data-center capabilities, and gradually deploying AI across government, public services and industry.
Huawei presented a proposed four-layer AI ecosystem covering infrastructure, AI capacity building, open and commercial AI models, and practical applications designed around Punjab’s governance and economic requirements.
Maryam Nawaz welcomed Huawei’s continued engagement with Punjab and said emerging technologies could help improve government efficiency, transparency, decision-making and the accessibility and quality of public services.
The proposed partnership would also support localized AI capabilities by combining cloud infrastructure, computing resources, relevant data and specialized AI models. The objective is to develop solutions that address Punjab’s specific requirements and can eventually be expanded across government departments and key economic sectors.
Talent development was also identified as a key component of the strategy. The two sides discussed strengthening AI skills among government officials, industry professionals, academics and local communities through training and talent development initiatives.
The roadmap also includes strengthening AI and cloud infrastructure, launching high-impact pilot projects and developing successful use cases for wider deployment. Both sides emphasized the need for an effective government-enterprise coordination mechanism to improve communication, clarify responsibilities and accelerate implementation.
The meeting also highlighted the broader China-Pakistan digital cooperation agenda, with Punjab seeking to advance its goal of becoming the most AI-enabled province in South Asia.
Huawei representatives at the meeting included Antonony Gu, global president of Huawei Cloud Stack; Todd Liu, chairman of Huawei Pakistan; and Ahmed Bilal Masud, CEO of Huawei Pakistan Cloud and AI Business.
Maryam Nawaz said strategic partnerships with leading global technology companies could contribute to building a digitally empowered, innovative and citizen-focused Punjab.
