Shehbaz Sharif Heads to Bishkek for SCO Summit, Set to Assume Chairmanship

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and formally assume the organisation’s chairmanship for a one-year term.

The prime minister will participate in the high-level SCO meeting, where leaders and senior representatives of member states are expected to discuss regional and international issues, economic cooperation, connectivity and collective development.

During his visit, Shehbaz is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders attending the summit. The meetings on the sidelines will provide an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest, strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, and explore opportunities for cooperation in various fields.

Pakistan’s assumption of the SCO chairmanship will give Islamabad an opportunity to play a more active role in shaping the organisation’s agenda and advancing initiatives focused on regional cooperation.

The prime minister’s participation is also expected to highlight Pakistan’s position on regional peace, economic integration and connectivity. His engagements with participating leaders will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation among SCO member states.

The visit comes as Pakistan continues to pursue stronger regional partnerships through multilateral forums. The SCO provides a platform for member states to coordinate on political, economic, security and other areas of common interest.
