Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the search and rescue team located the body beyond Camp III and is preparing for a safe evacuation to Base Camp.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Monday that the body of Pakistani mountaineer Dr. Asma Mushtaq has been located beyond Camp III on Spantik Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan.
In an update posted on X on Aug. 31, Tarar said the search and rescue team had reportedly located the deceased climber’s body.
The team is now assessing conditions at the site and finalizing arrangements to recover and evacuate the body safely to Base Camp, according to the minister.
The operation is being carried out in extremely challenging high-altitude terrain, where weather and other environmental risks can complicate the recovery process.
Dr. Mushtaq died on Aug. 20 while descending Spantik, a 7,027-meter peak in Gilgit-Baltistan, after suffering a serious high-altitude medical emergency. Earlier recovery attempts were hampered by heavy snowfall and strong winds, which made it difficult for teams to reach and locate her body.
