Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has dismissed viral social media claims that he is engaged to an Austrian princess, but his clarification has done little to stop the internet’s meme frenzy.
Rumours about Bilawal’s alleged engagement to a woman identified online as “Princess Gloria” spread rapidly over the weekend, with social media posts claiming that the PPP chairman was preparing to marry into a European royal family.
Some posts linked the alleged wedding plans to Austria and Liechtenstein, although no credible evidence was presented to support the claims.
The unverified reports quickly became a social media spectacle, with users sharing memes, edited photographs and fictional scenarios about the supposed royal wedding.
Bilawal eventually addressed the rumours himself in a post on X, saying social media had already “fixed” his marriage, arranged his engagement and decided that he would marry a woman he had never heard of.
He made clear that he was not engaged and said he did not know anyone named Princess Gloria.
Bilawal also suggested that controversies generated online can sometimes divert public attention from more serious issues.
His clarification, however, came after the rumour had already gained significant traction online.
Social media users continued to joke about the alleged royal connection, with some playfully welcoming the imaginary princess as their future “bhabhi” while others created fictional wedding scenarios involving Bilawal and European royalty.
The meme cycle also expanded into fashion-related jokes, including one viral comparison involving Bilawal and Dubai chocolate.
Other Pakistani political figures were pulled into the fictional storyline as well. Memes featuring Sheikh Rasheed and Nawaz Sharif imagined their reactions to Bilawal supposedly marrying a European princess.
Some users took the joke further by creating posts about heartbreak, while others repurposed old political videos and poetry clips to manufacture humorous reactions to the alleged wedding.
The rumours also prompted playful posts from users joking about their own search for a “prince” or “princess.”
Despite the flood of memes and edited posts, there is no confirmed evidence of a royal romance involving Bilawal and anyone identified as Princess Gloria.
Bilawal’s position remains clear: he says he is not engaged to anyone named Princess Gloria and has never met her.
