Punjab CM orders dedicated motorcycle lanes, stricter zebra-crossing enforcement and traffic measures to improve road safety and traffic flow in Lahore.
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to establish dedicated motorcycle lanes on major roads across Lahore as part of a broader initiative to improve traffic management and road safety.
Chairing a meeting on traffic management, Maryam Nawaz expressed concern over repeated violations of traffic rules by vehicles operating under the Suthra Punjab Programme. She directed officials to ensure that such vehicles strictly comply with traffic regulations.
The chief minister also expressed sorrow over the death of a minor girl who was struck by a Suthra Punjab vehicle, emphasizing the need for stronger measures to protect pedestrians and other road users.
She ordered the strict enforcement of zebra-crossing rules and approved camera-based digital monitoring to improve compliance. The meeting also discussed a proposal to install alert buttons for pedestrians crossing roads.
Maryam Nawaz ordered a pilot project on The Mall to strengthen enforcement of zebra-crossing regulations. Ferozepur Road was also designated for development as a model road in Lahore.
The chief minister further instructed authorities to prevent cargo tractor-trolleys from operating on roads without proper covers. She placed particular emphasis on enforcing the requirement for vehicles working under the Suthra Punjab Programme.
To address congestion at key points, Maryam Nawaz called for immediate measures to improve traffic flow at Shahdara and Thokar Niaz Baig, particularly around Lahore’s entry and exit routes.
She also directed authorities to install traffic signals at Pine Avenue and Jati Umra Chowk as part of efforts to streamline traffic movement and improve road safety.
