Punjab’s courts reopened after a 30-day summer recess, with Rawalpindi’s family courts witnessing a record influx of new cases on the first day of resumed proceedings.
According to available case details, 27 family courts in Rawalpindi received 214 new cases involving a range of marital and family disputes. The cases included divorce, khula, dowry and dower-related matters.
Some Christian women also approached the courts seeking divorce, while 18 men filed cases seeking court orders for their wives to return home following marital disagreements.
The case details also indicated that social media played a role in several marriages. Many women reportedly told the courts that they had met their husbands through TikTok and other social media platforms before getting married.
Several of these marriages reportedly ended within three to six months, leading the couples to seek legal intervention.
Meanwhile, civil, magistrate and special courts across the province also resumed proceedings after the summer recess. The proceedings included the production of accused persons from Adiala Jail before the relevant courts.
The first-day caseload in Rawalpindi highlights the range of family disputes coming before the courts, from marital breakdowns and financial claims to disagreements between spouses.
