PDMA Issues Weather Alert for KP, Punjab as Rain and Snowfall Expected

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, warning of increased rainfall, snowfall, and a significant drop in temperatures from January 16 to 23. Citizens and local administrations have been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.

In KP, most districts are expected to experience rain and snowfall during the forecast period. The PDMA has warned of possible road closures, slippery conditions, landslides in hilly areas, and the risk of snow avalanches in mountainous regions, depending on ground conditions.

From January 16 to 19, intermittent light rain is expected in upper districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, and Galyat. Between January 20 and 23, heavy rain and snowfall, along with thunderstorms, are likely in mountainous areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Galyat. Plain districts including Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Bannu, and D.I. Khan may also receive rain and thunderstorms, followed by fog and colder temperatures.

In Punjab, intermittent rainfall is forecast from January 16 to 19 due to a western weather system. From January 20 to 23, rainfall is expected across most districts, including Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, and Bahawalpur, while Murree and Galyat may receive snowfall.

PDMA has directed relevant departments to keep drainage systems functional and emergency services on standby, advising residents to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel.
