Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusty winds in several regions on Oct. 6-7, with a 2-4°C temperature drop expected.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several parts of the country on Oct. 6 and 7, warning that the weather system may disrupt daily activities and cause damage to crops and infrastructure.
According to a weather advisory issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre on Oct. 5, the western weather system is likely to enter the upper parts of the country on Oct. 6 and remain in the region until Oct. 7.
In Punjab, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Bhakkar and Faisalabad. The PMD said isolated areas may receive heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and thunderstorms are expected from Oct. 5 to 7 in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kurram, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and surrounding areas. Heavy rain is also possible at isolated locations.
Parts of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also likely to receive rain and thunderstorms on Oct. 6 and 7. The forecast covers Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghizer, Astore and Skardu, among other areas.
In Balochistan, mostly dry and warm weather is expected in most areas, while isolated locations may receive rain and thunderstorms during the night of Oct. 6. Sindh is expected to remain mostly dry and warm during the forecast period.
The PMD warned that thunderstorms and strong winds could damage weak structures, including poles, billboards, solar panels and other installations. A 2-4°C decrease in temperatures is also expected during the period.
