Fakhar Zaman reached the 100-six milestone in men’s T20 internationals against Sri Lanka, but his record was overshadowed by Pakistan’s eight-wicket defeat in the third T20I in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani batter to hit 100 sixes in men’s T20 International cricket on Wednesday, achieving the milestone during the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. However, Sri Lanka claimed an eight-wicket victory, overshadowing the left-hander’s historic achievement.
The 36-year-old reached the landmark when he launched Sri Lankan fast bowler Binura Fernando over deep midwicket for a six. Fakhar had entered the match with 99 sixes in his T20I career and needed just one maximum to reach the milestone.
The record added another significant achievement to Fakhar’s international career, highlighting his aggressive batting style and ability to clear the boundary in the shortest format of the game.
However, the opener could not turn the milestone into a substantial individual score. Sri Lankan pacer Ishan Malinga dismissed him for 12 runs, cutting short his innings after the record-breaking shot.
Despite Fakhar’s achievement, Pakistan failed to stop Sri Lanka from securing victory in the series finale. The visitors completed a successful chase to win by eight wickets, with Kusal Mendis playing a key role in their batting performance.
Mendis helped guide Sri Lanka toward the target as the visitors finished the contest on a positive note. The result left Pakistan disappointed in the final match, even as Fakhar delivered a memorable individual moment.
Fakhar’s achievement marks a notable milestone for Pakistan cricket. Known for his attacking approach at the top of the order, he has been an important part of Pakistan’s limited-overs setup. His power-hitting has made him a prominent figure in the country’s white-ball cricket.
Reaching 100 sixes in men’s T20 internationals places Fakhar among the format’s notable boundary hitters and establishes him as the first Pakistani batter to reach the mark in the men’s international game.
While Sri Lanka celebrated a convincing victory in Rawalpindi, Fakhar’s record provided a personal highlight for Pakistan on an otherwise disappointing day. His achievement will remain a significant moment in his T20I career, although the hosts could not finish the series finale with a win.
