Trump predicts a swift end to the Iran war and lower oil prices, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian rejects US pressure and reports emerge of contingency plans for renewed military action.

US President Donald Trump has predicted that the war with Iran will end soon and global oil prices will fall sharply afterward, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has vowed that military and economic pressure will not force Tehran to surrender.

Speaking to reporters in Montana, Trump said Iran wanted the conflict to end and reiterated that Tehran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. He also expressed uncertainty about which Iranian officials were involved in negotiations with Washington.

Trump claimed that US military strikes had severely weakened Iran’s armed forces, including its navy and air force. He said Iran’s 159 ships were no longer operational and claimed that the country’s fighter jets had been destroyed on the ground. These assertions could not be independently verified.

The US president also described Iran as a weakened regional power and predicted a substantial decline in oil prices once the fighting ended.

In Tehran, Pezeshkian rejected the prospect of Iran yielding to Washington’s demands under military or economic pressure. He called for greater national unity as the country faced mounting economic and political challenges.

Pezeshkian described the restrictions imposed on Iran as among the most severe the country had experienced since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He accused Washington of deliberately worsening living conditions to generate public dissatisfaction and encourage protests against the Iranian government.

The Iranian president said strengthening national cohesion was essential to withstand external pressure and maintain the country’s stability.

US reportedly considers contingency plans for powerful bomb

Meanwhile, the United States is reportedly preparing contingency plans for the possible use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” if Trump decides to resume military operations.

According to a CNN report, US military planners have discussed potential targets, including Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities. Officials familiar with the discussions reportedly questioned whether the weapon would be effective against deeply buried nuclear sites.

A source cited in the report said the bomb was primarily designed to destroy targets across a large area rather than penetrate heavily protected underground facilities.

The possibility of renewed attacks has also raised concerns about civilian casualties and the broader consequences of an escalation. The reported contingency planning does not, by itself, establish that a decision has been made to use the weapon.

Stalled diplomacy adds to economic and political pressure

The developments come as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain stalled. Washington has reportedly placed greater emphasis on economic pressure after scaling back some military operations.

The conflict has also become a domestic political challenge for Trump ahead of the November midterm elections. Rising fuel costs and broader price increases associated with the war have contributed to public dissatisfaction, potentially creating additional pressure on the administration.

Although Trump continues to predict an early end to the fighting and a sharp decline in oil prices, the outcome remains uncertain. Negotiations, Iran’s response to US pressure and the possibility of renewed military action remain key factors shaping the conflict.
