Pakistan and Qatar have agreed to strengthen bilateral security cooperation and expand coordination on internal security, reaffirming their commitment to regional peace and stability amid evolving regional challenges.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in Doha on Oct. 20.

The two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation between their respective interior ministries, strengthen bilateral coordination and deepen their existing security partnership.

They also held detailed discussions on the regional situation and issues affecting peace and stability. Both sides reiterated their commitment to maintaining close relations and working together to address shared security concerns.

Speaking during the meeting, Naqvi said Pakistan and Qatar were working together to promote regional peace and stability. He emphasized the importance of continued engagement between the two countries to strengthen their partnership and improve cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Sheikh Khalifa reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to its relationship with Pakistan, describing bilateral ties as highly important. Both ministers agreed that cooperation between their ministries should be further strengthened, particularly in areas related to internal security.

However, the official announcement did not outline specific projects, operational arrangements or a timeline for implementing the proposed cooperation.

The meeting reflects Islamabad and Doha’s intention to build on their longstanding relationship by placing greater emphasis on security coordination alongside broader bilateral engagement.

Pakistan and Qatar maintain close diplomatic relations and regularly engage on issues of mutual interest. Their latest discussions highlight the importance both countries attach to security cooperation as regional developments continue to influence diplomatic and strategic priorities.

For Pakistan, stronger engagement with Doha provides an opportunity to deepen cooperation with an important Gulf partner. For Qatar, continued collaboration reinforces its longstanding diplomatic and security relationship with Pakistan.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen ties between the two interior ministries and expand cooperation in pursuit of common objectives.

While the agreement signals a renewed focus on Pakistan-Qatar security relations, its practical impact will depend on the steps both governments take to translate their understanding into sustained cooperation.

The discussions underscore a shared commitment to closer security coordination and continued dialogue as the two countries seek to support regional peace and stability.
