Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary says Tehran will not negotiate with Washington until its conditions for building trust are met.
Iran will not allow any enriched uranium to leave the country, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said during a meeting with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.
Rezaei said Iran would not enter negotiations with the United States until Washington took steps to build trust. He described meeting Iran’s conditions as the starting point for the confidence-building process.
“Until the United States builds trust, there will be no negotiations,” Rezaei said, according to Fars.
The remarks underline Tehran’s stated position on enriched uranium and its conditions for engaging in talks with Washington. However, the statement provided no further details about the specific conditions Iran expects the United States to meet.
Rezaei also said the border issue between Iran and Pakistan had been resolved and that all border crossing points between the two countries had reopened from Wednesday morning.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei had attributed the border closures to “technical issues,” according to the information provided.
The statements came during a visit to Tehran by Pakistan’s chief of army staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
The meetings provided an opportunity for discussions between Pakistani and Iranian officials amid developments concerning the two countries’ border arrangements and Iran’s position on negotiations with the United States.
