A major development has emerged ahead of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11), as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly in talks to bring England’s star cricketers Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow into the league through direct signings. If finalized, the move could significantly boost the international profile of PSL 2026.
Traditionally, PSL franchises build their squads through the players’ draft. However, in certain cases, globally recognized foreign players are signed separately as marquee players to strengthen team combinations and enhance the league’s commercial appeal. Such signings are aimed at increasing fan engagement and elevating the tournament’s global standing.
According to reports, Islamabad United is among the franchises being linked with either Joe Root or Jonny Bairstow. The franchise is reportedly considering the inclusion of a high-profile batting star to further strengthen its lineup and add international star power ahead of the upcoming season.
If the negotiations materialize, it would mark one of the most high-profile English signings in recent PSL history. From a cricketing perspective, the inclusion of players of such stature would raise the competitive standard of the league, while commercially, it is expected to attract greater global attention.
However, player availability remains a key factor, given the congested international cricket calendar. So far, neither the PCB nor the players have officially confirmed the potential deals.
