Veteran Nepali Film Star Sunil Thapa Dies at 68

KATHMANDU Renowned Nepali film actor Sunil Thapa has passed away at the age of 68 foreign media reported on Saturday triggering an outpouring of grief across Nepal’s film industry and among fans throughout South Asia.

According to reports the veteran actor’s health deteriorated suddenly prompting his immediate transfer to Norvik Hospital in Kathmandu. He was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state and placed under emergency medical care. Despite efforts by doctors to stabilize his condition, he suffered a fatal heart attack hospital officials later confirmed.

Sunil Thapa was widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Nepali cinema. With a career spanning several decades he earned acclaim for his commanding screen presence and ability to portray a wide range of characters with depth and realism.

He appeared in more than 300 Nepali films and also worked in several Hindi Bhojpuri and Tamil productions gaining recognition beyond Nepal’s borders. His contributions helped strengthen regional cinema and brought Nepali actors wider visibility.

Following the news of his passing fellow actors directors and filmmakers paid tribute to Thapa describing him as a disciplined professional and a respected senior artist. Fans also flooded social media with messages of condolence celebrating his enduring legacy in cinema.
