Pakistan Sets Historic Record with Highest Petroleum Levy Collection in First Half of Fiscal Year

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

ISLAMABAD: (Yaseen Hashmi) Pakistan has recorded the highest petroleum levy collection in its history during the first half of a fiscal year, reflecting a significant surge in government revenue from fuel-related taxes, according to official financial documents.

Data released by authorities shows that petroleum levy collections rose sharply by 273 billion 51 Crore rupees on a year-on-year basis during the first six months of the ongoing fiscal year. From July to December 2025, the government collected 822 billion 93 Crore Rupees under the petroleum levy head, compared with 549 billion 41 Crore Rupees during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Officials attribute the increase largely to higher levy rates imposed on petroleum products. Government records indicate that last month, the federal government increased the petroleum levy on petrol by 4.65 rupees, bringing the total levy to 84.27 rupees per liter. Similarly, the levy on high-speed diesel was raised by 0.80 rupees, reaching 76.21 rupees per liter.

In addition to petroleum levy revenues, the government also generated income through environmental taxation measures. Documents show that 25 billion 48 Crore rupees were collected separately under the carbon levy during the first half of the current fiscal year.
