Pakistan continued their strong run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a comfortable 32 run victory over the United States in a Group A match played in Colombo on Tuesday registering their second consecutive win in the tournament.
After winning the toss the USA opted to field first. Pakistan posted an imposing total of 190 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs thanks largely to a brilliant knock from Sahibzada Farhan who top scored with 73 runs. He shared a solid 54 run opening partnership with Saim Ayub giving Pakistan a strong start.
Saim Ayub was dismissed for 19 followed quickly by captain Salman Ali Agha who departed for just one run. Farhan then combined with Babar Azam to stabilise the innings with Babar scoring 46 off 32 balls before getting out. Farhan was later dismissed for 73 while Shadab Khan added valuable late momentum with a quick 30 off 12 deliveries.
In response the USA managed 158 for 8 in 20 overs despite a fighting effort falling short of the target. Pakistan’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the chase.
The win also allowed Pakistan to avenge their defeat against the USA in 2024. Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan had edged past the Netherlands by three wickets while the USA had lost to India.
