PESHAWAR: Earthquake tremors were felt in Peshawar and several other cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa causing brief panic among residents.
According to reports the tremors were experienced in Malakand Lower Dir Hangu Kohat Bajaur Swat Buner Shangla North Waziristan Swabi and Upper Dir.The shaking was also felt in the federal capital Islamabad as well as Rawalpindi.
Seismological authorities stated that the earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region at a depth of 73 kilometers.
The tremors prompted many residents to rush out of homes, offices, and buildings as a precautionary measure. Witnesses said people were seen reciting prayers while gathering in open spaces.
Despite the widespread tremors no immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received. Authorities said monitoring teams were assessing the situation while advising citizens to remain calm and follow safety guidelines during aftershocks.
Pakistan frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location along major tectonic plate boundaries, making earthquakes a recurring natural phenomenon in various parts of the country.
