New Delhi: India’s locally developed fighter jet the Tejas, was involved in another accident during a training flight, according to Indian media reports. The jet reportedly crashed while landing, but the pilot escaped with minor injuries. However the aircraft was completely destroyed in the incident.
This latest crash marks the third accident involving the Tejas. The first occurred in Jaisalmer in March 2024 while the second took place last year during the Dubai Air Show resulting in the death of the pilot.
Reports indicate that the aircraft involved in the recent crash was one of the 32 Tejas jets already delivered to the Indian Air Force. Despite these setbacks the Indian Air Force has placed an order for 180 advanced Tejas variants, signaling continued confidence in the indigenous fighter program.
The Tejas project is a key part of India’s efforts to develop domestic defense capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign aircraft. While accidents have raised safety concerns, officials continue to stress that lessons learned from each incident are incorporated into design improvements and pilot training programs.
The Tejas remains a symbol of India’s growing aerospace industry, and authorities are expected to review safety protocols following this latest crash.
