RAWALPINDI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a man accused of blackmailing women by sharing explicit content through social media platforms, officials said Tuesday.
According to agency sources, a team led by SHO Mehboob Elahi Butt conducted a raid following a tip-off and apprehended the suspect, identified as Waqar Hassan, in Rawalpindi. Authorities allege that the accused created fake social media accounts on TikTok and WhatsApp to target women.
Investigators say the suspect was involved in defaming women by circulating inappropriate videos and using the material to extort and blackmail them. During the operation, officials seized a mobile phone believed to have been used in the crimes. Authorities expect to retrieve crucial digital evidence from the device.
A case has been registered against the suspect, and further investigation is underway.
NCCIA officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against individuals involved in online harassment and cyber blackmail, vowing to bring perpetrators to justice under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws.
