ROME: Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi announced on Wednesday that Italy will issue 10,500 work visas for Pakistan’s skilled labor force aiming to promote legal migration according to Radio Pakistan. The announcement followed a bilateral meeting with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Rome.
The meeting also focused on strengthening cooperation in combating drug trafficking, human smuggling and terrorism. Both ministers praised joint efforts to curb illegal immigration and human trafficking. Piantedosi emphasized that the visa initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance bilateral legal migration channels. Additionally he revealed that Pakistani diplomatic passport holders would be exempt from Italy’s visa requirements, further boosting bilateral ties.
During the discussions Minister Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s successful measures to curb illegal migration including enhanced monitoring at airports and sea borders which has significantly reduced unauthorized departures. Piantedosi acknowledged Pakistan’s effective efforts, describing them as commendable.
The meeting reflects ongoing collaboration to facilitate legal migration protect workers rights and strengthen cross border security. Both sides agreed to continue regular coordination to ensure smooth implementation of visa programs and support for Pakistani applicants at every stage.
