The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has launched a nationwide crackdown against drug smuggling near educational institutions and across various cities in Pakistan. During nine separate operations, ANF arrested eight suspects, including an Afghan national, and recovered a massive quantity of narcotics weighing 6,608.3 kilograms, valued at over Rs 5.89 billion.
In operations near educational institutions, ANF recovered 9.6 kilograms of hashish from a suspect near Chung No. 26 in Islamabad. The arrested individual confessed to selling drugs to students of educational institutions.
In other actions, 150 grams of cannabis were recovered from vape cartridges in a parcel arriving from the UK at a courier office in Rawalpindi’s Chaklala Garrison. In Lahore, 5 kilograms of ice and 5 kilograms of opium hidden inside a tandoor were seized from a parcel bound for the UK, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
Further recoveries included 10 kilograms of heroin from a vehicle near a madrassa on Hub River Road in Karachi, 4 kilograms of ice and 250 grams of opium from two suspects in Multan, and multiple smaller seizures in Gilgit, Peshawar, Jamrud Road, Turkiye Toll Plaza, and Nokkundi, where 6,571 kilograms of hashish were found hidden in bushes.
Cases have been registered under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997, and investigations are underway, according to an ANF spokesperson.
