RAWALPINDI An anti terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has rejected an application filed by former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan seeking a medical examination by his personal physicians.
The plea was heard by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah. Imran Khan was represented by his counsel Faisal Malik while Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah appeared on behalf of the prosecution. The prosecutor opposed the request arguing that Khan is an under trial accused in the GHQ attack case and not a convicted prisoner. He further stated that the Pakistan Prison Rules do not allow treatment by private doctors for under-trial inmates.
After hearing arguments from both sides the court dismissed the application.
The decision comes amid growing concerns regarding Khan’s health. According to a recent medical report, he has been diagnosed with a blockage in a vein of his right eye a condition that may affect vision if not treated promptly. The report had recommended further medical evaluation and close monitoring.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court has scheduled hearings for 13 cases involving Imran Khan on February 9. These include appeals related to bail matters NAB references the cipher case May 9 incidents, and a defamation case involving Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Notices have been issued to all concerned parties.
