PESHAWAR: Following orders from the Peshawar High Court the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and provincial administration removed barricades from multiple roads and restored traffic which had been disrupted due to protests by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) supporters.
PTI activists had blocked roads at 16 locations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa causing significant inconvenience to the public. The High Court directed the IG Police and the Chief Secretary KP to immediately reopen the roads, prompting authorities to take action.
Barricades were removed from the crucial Attock Bridge on GT Road connecting Punjab and KP, as well as from roads linking Dera Ismail Khan with Mianwali and Chashma. The Dera Ismail Khan Islamabad M14 CPEC Park toll plaza was cleared and traffic was restored on Hazara Motorway including Havelian and Muslimabad interchanges.
The High Court had criticized the ruling party stating that citizens had suffered for four days with some risking their lives and called the road blockades unacceptable. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the federal government would ensure compliance with the court’s orders and support any requests from the Chief Secretary and IG for enforcement.
